Driven with a Purpose
Supporting strategic business decisions through data visualization, actionable insights and effective recommendations.
Academic Projects
Project Scenario: Sales Department Manager
The company has recently noticed a decrease in gas motored
auto sales and an increase in electric auto sales. The manufacturing company
needs to diversify to bolster the company’s portfolio and increase revenue. To
accomplish this goal, the company needs to expand into the electric motor
industry where their motors can be sold. The types of quantitative data that would support the company’s diversification strategy for both industries are the sales by region,
sales by fuel type, sales by body type, and the total value of each industry.
The qualitative data that would be helpful when making this decision includes
consumer demand trends and reviews for both industries.
Project Findings
As demand for hybrid vehicles continues, automakers are scrambling, with a projected 45% of sales expected to come from hybrid vehicles this year, which is a 16-point increase from the 29% of last year. This is a significant increase in demand and a challenge for automakers to fulfill! This is where our company comes in, where we can fill the gap, and supply the motors that automakers need (White, 2024).
Project Scenario: Financial Analyst
For this project, I examined Chipotle’s financial statement and financial health over the course of two years, to decide whether they needed short-term financing. I used Chipotle’s balance sheet, cashflow statement and income statement to make my determination. I also calculated their current ratio, earnings per share, financial leverage, return on equity, and working capital.
Project Findings
After analyzing Chipotle’s financial statements, I found that they are in a good financial position, with their working capital, current ratio, earnings per share, and return on equity increasing quarter-over quarter. I also concluded that their financial leverage decreased over the periods compared, and their working capital significantly increased. This increase allowed them to meet their short-term obligations and expenses, without the need to incur debt, even if they experienced fluctuations in revenue.
Project Scenario: Company Consultant
Accounts Receivable Data Set
I was asked to discover the factors that influenced prompt payments and gain actionable insights into customer payment behavior. After analysis I was able to provide recommendations, such as implementing net payment terms and conditions, sliding scale discounts, and automated payment reminders. These recommendations addressed the company’s late payment problems and allowed the company to recover more money, as well as improve collection efficiency.
Customer Churn Data Set
I was asked to discover the reasons why customers were leaving the company. After analysis I was able to provide recommendations, such as implementing service and price bundles, discount rates for automatic payment methods, as well as refer-a-friend and loyalty programs. These recommendations incentivized customers to stay with the company, increased customer satisfaction, and fostered customer loyalty.
Employee Attrition Data Set
I was asked to discover the reasons behind employee attrition. After analysis I was able to determine which departments and job roles lost the most employees over a specified time. This analysis allowed me to provide recommendations such as implementing wage alignments, providing remote or hybrid opportunities, conducting in-house technical training, as well as leadership and promotional opportunities. These recommendations enabled the company to maintain employee retention, boost morale and involvement.
Bike Share Data Set
I was asked to discover the factors that influenced ridership participation in a certain city, so the company could address supply and demand issues. After analysis I was able to determine that weather conditions affected ridership the most, and that there are certain days and seasons that’s considered ideal for most participants. This analysis allowed me to provide recommendations such as implementing a manual redistribution strategy, a hybrid docking system, as well as an automated bike redistribution system and a ride-share app. These recommendations can ensure that bikes are stored in low demand times, but available at popular locations during high demand times.
Business Technology Assessment
I was asked to perform a business technology assessment on each of the North, South, East, and West territories for a specific company. In this assessment I looked at the company’s current information technology (IT) infrastructure, to determine what technologies were needed to cohesively integrate all four offices and address security concerns. Following this analysis, I was able to offer recommendations that included replacing the existing on-site hardware platforms with cloud services, migrating each individually hosted database to one single cloud vendor, and replacing the existing outdated business system with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, that is complemented by other business intelligence software. I also recommended implementing Active directory policies, along with other security features to address security risks, upgrading all client computers and operating systems, as well as consolidating each individually hosted website into one single external website vendor. My recommendations to the company included implementing each strategy using a phased rollout to minimize issues and allow information that was learned to be applied to succeeding territories.
Project Findings
As a company consultant, I was asked to analyze several data sets to find trends and gain insights that answered important business questions. Using these insights, I was able to provide actionable recommendations that the company used to maintain employee retention, improve customer satisfaction, address late payments, and improve bike availability as well as implement initiatives that addressed the company’s technological gaps. After completing these initiatives, the company will have centralized their systems, enforced their brand identity, and provided consistency, which boosts employee morale, customer satisfaction and profits.
